Adult Learning Catalogue

Special Education Coordinators at New Visions designed Adult Learning sessions that can be facilitated at your school by a school-based staff person.

What does that mean? We created a course catalogue of Special Education sessions in the areas of advocacy, compliance, instruction, and teaming. Some sessions are specifically designed for special education teachers and some are designed for all staff!

What is the purpose of these sessions? Sessions will help to demystify special education by exploring topics such as grouping students, using IEPs to improve instruction, and defusing challenging behavior. All workshops are aligned to the NVCHS Teacher Evaluation Rubric. Participants will have time to implement knowledge and skills acquired into their own practice during the session.

So, how does it work? All sessions can be facilitated at your school by a school-based member. Facilitators have access to lesson plans, powerpoints, agendas, and handouts necessary for each session.

How were these designed? Each session was designed utilizing the six Adult Learning principles from Knowles and colleagues (2015). The six principles are (1) provide context, (2) provide self-directed learning opportunities, (3) engage participants in prior experience, either personal or connected to prior sessions, (4) engage in real-life application, (5) orientation to learning is life-, task-, or problem-centered, and (6) motivation to learn is external or internal.
